THE JOINT VENTURE OF AMDI-ASSIST-CBTC SIGNED CONSULTANCY SERVICES CONTRACT IN VIENTIANE, LAOS

 On September 10, 2018, the Asian Management and Development Institute (AMDI), Vietnam, the lead firm in association with Asia Society for Social Improvement and Sustainable Transformation (ASSIST), Philippine and Capacity Building Training Centre (CBTC), Lao PDR signed a consultancy services contract with the Project Management Unit (PMU) for package “Consulting Services To Design And Implement Capacity Strengthening Measures At TVET Colleges” under the framework of the “Second Strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training Project” (SSTVET), funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Laos PDR. The package will be implemented within 36 months from October 2018 to October 2021.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has provided a grant to the Lao PDR to support efforts to realign TVET with current and future labor market needs, with focus on eight project colleges. The project has three main outputs:

Output 1: upgrading teaching and learning environments at eight TVET project colleges including updating equipment, workshops, dormitory, and other facilities;

Output 2: improving quality and relevance of demand-driven programs by providing continuous training and coaching for teachers;

Output 3: increasing access to TVET for  poor students through the establishment of a targeted direct stipend program for poor and disadvantaged youth.

Within framework of the output 2, the consulting package aims at design and implementation of an integrated, multi-level capacity building program to (i) improve technical and pedagogy skills and knowledge of teachers towards promoting student-centered teaching approaches and increased hands-on training for students; and (ii) strengthen the management capacity of current and future college leaders and administrators towards promoting an entrepreneurial approach in managing the college.

The Kick-off meeting was organized on October 1st, 2018 with the participation of Mr. Vannalek Leuang – Deputy General Director of TVED, representatives of the PMU, the Joint Venture, technical consultants and eight TVET colleges i.e. Vientiane- Hanoi Friendship Vocational College, Pakpasak Technical Vocational College, Polytechnic College, Dongkhamxang Technical Vocational College, Technical College Of Vientiane Province, Savannakhet Technical Vocational College and Technical Vocational College of Champasack. The expectation, work plan and coordination mechanism had been discussed and agreed among related parties.

This project has marked an important milestone of AMDI in Laos market. As a lead consulting firm in this contract package, AMDI will increase the reputation and experience in providing consultancy services in the region that contribute to AMDI’s experience in providing technical consulting services to international donors in general and TVET sector in particular. AMDI is confident that the expected outputs will be achieved beyond the expectations of the Client.
