EARTH DAY EVENT 2017

On April 22nd, at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi, many activities were taken place within the framework of the Earth Day 2017 Program. The program was organized by the Center for Environmental and Community Research (CECR) combined with Vietnam Environment Administration (the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), the US Embassy in Vietnam,  local businesses, NGOs and a large number of students from many universities in Hanoi. Responding to Earth Day, AMDI members also actively participated in environmental cleanup and protection activities during the event.

  April 22nd is annually chosen by the United Nations as Earth Day to encourage nations to actively participate in environmental protection. On this day, countries organize environmental protection activities such as garbage collection and sorting; planting trees and promoting participation of the whole community in environmental protection. Earth Day in Vietnam has been organized since 2012 with the initiative of the Center for Environmental and Community Research (CECR).

At opening ceremony of Earth Day 2017, there was an energetic flash mob of students from some universities in Hanoi. The performance quickly warmed up the atmosphere, attracting the attention of audiences.

With the theme of "Going together, taking action: For clean water in Vietnam", the event contributes to raise public awareness in controlling and protecting water resources in Vietnam through specific activities. After the opening ceremony, delegates and thousands of volunteers took part in interesting activities such as cycling for clean water source in Vietnam, collecting garbage to clean the lake and Thong Nhat park, exchanging the garbage for trees and environmentally friendly products. In addition, environmental education games to raise awareness of individuals and communities about the importance of clean water also attracted lots of attentions from many participants.

Attending the event, we were not only engaged in the meaningful activities but also visited the booths of organizations, businesses and students introducing environmentally friendly products and solutions for environmental protection.

Display of waste - gift exchanging

The program this year attracted the participation of more than 1,000 volunteers who are officials, employees of organizations, enterprises, unions and students of universities in Hanoi. Through the program, the organizers and volunteers conveyed the message: Protecting the environment in general and water environment in particular is not only a responsibility of the government but also of the business, community and individuals. We believe that the good actions of each individual in the event will be replicated, so that the whole community will join hands to protect the environment, for a clean and healthy environment.
