AMDI and VNU-HUS organized the Inception Workshop of the Project on “Improving Resilience and Sustainability through Operational Research Capacity Building in Southeast Asia”

From July 15-16 2021, at VNU-HUS campus, AMDI, VNU-HUS, and other universities from Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia joined the virtual inception workshop to discuss on applying Operational Research (OR) to tackle challenges of the national Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Project is funded by the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) through the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), and is led by Principal Investigator, Professor Maria Paola Scaparra, from Kent Business School, along with the participation of professors who are leading researchers in the OR, from the universities of Kent, Southampton and Lancaster.

Assoc. Prof. Dr.Sc. Vu Hoang Linh – Rector of VNU University of Science chaired the workshop in Vietnam

The project provided the researchers and related organizations a forum to exchange knowledge and understandings on applying OR in real life to tackle challenges of the United Nations SDGs. More than 100 stakeholders and researchers attended the workshop from 05 different SEA countries and UK identified (i) Forest Management Plan in Vietnam, (ii) Food security in Cambodia, (iii) Green city and digital governance in Indonesia, and (iv) Urban flooding and drainage in Laos, as priority research topics to apply OR in the next stage.  Later this year, the project will work with early-career researchers (ECRs) from Southeast Asia target countries to prepare proposal to address these challenges.
