AMDI CONDUCTS RESEARCH ON SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL WASTE MANAGEMENT AT THE MEKONG DELTA

On February 5, 2024, the Asian Management and Development Institute held a kick-off meeting to develop an Integrated Decision Support System for Strategic Flood Mitigation Planning towards Sustainable Agricultural Waste Management at the Mekong Delta (IDSS-MEKONG). Participating in the kick-off meeting were sponsor representatives (RIDA Fund) and research team members. The kick-off meeting agreed on the tasks implementation Plan as well as the coordination mechanism between the parties to implement the Research.

Towards United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as SDG9 - Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, SDG11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, SDG13 - Climate Action, and SDG17 – Partnerships for the Goals, the Project aims to develop and implement a sustainable agricultural waste management model at the Mekong Delta (covering the region of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia) to stop burning the agricultural waste at fields in low-income and disadvantaged communities in the ASEAN region.

Virtual Kick-off Meeting

This project is delivered by a consortia of Cranfield University, UK - Lead and participating members including AMDI,  Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (IMHEN), Bedfordshire University – UK, Loraine University – France, Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA), Lao National University (Laos) and Mekong River Commission in Cambodia.  AMDI will be responsible for general coordination and implementation of activities to assess the current status of agricultural waste pollution in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

As scheduled, the research project will be implemented from February 2024 to June 2024.
