On 19 March 2017 morning, various activities of sanitation and communication within the event of “Giao Thuy Youth celebration with topics of environmental protection and traffic culture” engaged more than 250 students from secondary schools and high schoolS, as well as members of local Youth Union of Giao Thuy district. This activity is under “Red River Delta Adaptation and Youth” (READY) project funded by US Agency for International Development (USAID). The event has its honor to welcome Mr. Vu Thanh Tinh – Vice President of Giao Thuy disctric’s People Committee, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy – Secretary of Nam Dinh provincial Youth Union cum President of Vietnam Association of Youth in Nam Dinh, Mr. Nguyen Vu Chien - Head of provincial Propaganda department, Deputy Secretary of Provincial Youth Union and representatives of Steering Committee of School Youth under Central Youth Union.
During this multi-activity occasion, Youth union members jointly paraded for raising awareness on climate change, cleaned up the environment, planted trees and draw pictures with the subject of climate change. From Ngo Dong town heading to Quat Lam beach, the parade by electric bicycles conducted by school students from Giao Thuy high school caught the attention of local residents living along the road side. In the meantime, 50 other students from Giao Thuy secondary school were eagerly into drawing pictures at district huge hall. All of the pictures were results of creative and meaningful initiatives, presenting dreams of participating teenagers. Besides, these ideas depicted practical activities that community should together implement to protect Mother Nature, and more specifically to preserve our own living environment. Scoring and voting for the best picture, blatantly, became a “real challenge” for the organizer since all of them were meaningful and impressive. After a careful consideration, we opted out five of the most beautiful and meaningful drawings for awarding.
The first prize is awarded to the picture of student Pham Hanh Nguyen, class 7A, Giao Thuy Secondary school.
On this occasion, representatives of READY project donated 120 dracontomelons to Youth Union of Giao Xuan commune (Giao Thuy district). One day prior to the event, youngsters delightfully dug holes along main roads of the locality waiting for the donation trees. These dracontomelons, after transferred to the local Youth, are hopefully to help improving environmental spectacle, giving a greener atmosphere for the Giao Thuy homeland.

After finishing the primary activities of the event, local authorities, Youth Union of communes at Giao Thuy district and officers of READY project together put signs for the road of youth self-protecting in the surrounding area of the District People's Committee. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy - Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union advised Giao Thuy Youth unionists: "You should be responsible for taking care of this road as slogan of the sign we built here for community’s learning”.

“Giao Thuy Youth celebration with topics of environmental protection and traffic culture” under a range of communication activities organized at project sites of READY project, including: Tien Hai district, Giao Thuy distric and Cat Hai district is hopefully duplicated to strengthen awareness of local community and youth about climate change.
