From April 10 – 12, 2024, the research team which comprised of the Asian Management and Development Institute (AMDI), the University of Kent and University of UCL (UK) conducted a mission to Thua Thien Hue Province. The purpose of the mission was to visit and expand research cooperation opportunities with universities and local organizations of Thua Thien Hue Province.
Within the framework of the mission, in the morning of April 10, the research team had a meeting with the Quang Tho Commune People Comiittee (CPC) and Quang Tho Cooperative II. Representatives of Quang Tho CPC and Quang Tho Cooperative II took the lead in receiving and discussing with the team. The research team also included representatives from Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry. The research team spent a lot of time discussing and exploring agricultural production in general and Centella Asiatica (C. Asiatica) production in Quang Tho commune in particular. Quang Tho Cooperative II was our partner of the previous research project on “Homegrown solutions in Vietnam: Bringing C. Asiatica compounds forwards as candidates to treat liver cancer” from 2018 – 2022. At the meeting, the research team and local partners discussed and recommended potential cooperation topics/agenda.

In the following working days, the research team had the opportunity to work with Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, Institute of Science and Technology Application - Hue University of Sciences. Based on these exchanges with the above universities and institute, the research team expanded the national research network and identifed more opportunities for future cooperation.

The research team also had the opportunity to visit and work with the Raising Hope Social-Enterprise (https://raisinghopevn.com) – an organization dedicating for social goals – Helping cancer patients and medical students. Here, the research team had the opportunity to meet and discuss with a group of medical students who studied at Hue University of Medicine and understood about the activities of the Raising Hope group. With the desire for supporting local young students and researchers, the research team shared experiences and opportunities as well as research orientation for young students of Hue Medical University.
