On August 8th 2017, within the framework of the project ‘Red River Adaptation and Youth’ (Ready), Thai Binh Provincial Youth Union organized ‘Youth Starting-up and Creating Forum for Promoting Initiatives in Adaptation with Climate Change in the Red River Delta’. The event received participation of almost 200 young people from Thai Binh, Nam Dinh and Hai Phong provinces. An effervescent discussion about their start-up experiences in the context of global climate change was held.
Specifically, the forum was held with the participation of three Ready project organizations including Centre for Marinelife Conservation and Community Development (MCD), Asian Management and Development Institute (AMDI), Centre for Environment and Community Research (CECR); representatives of Thai Binh agencies: Provincial Youth Union, Department of Foreign Affairs, Provincial Women's Union; Representatives of districts: Tien Hai, Vu Thu, Quynh Phu (Thai Binh), Giao Thuy (Nam Dinh) and Cat Hai (Hai Phong). Broadcasters from Thai Binh Radio and Television, Thai Binh Newspaper and other central and local press agencies also participated in coverage of the event.
Forum attracted the participation of Thai Binh , Nam Dinh, Hai Phong youth
Youth Forum was organized with the aim of providing opportunities for the youth to share experiences and initiatives in starting up their businesses, socio-economic development, environmental protection and climate change adaptation. Thereby, the forum would create pervasiveness among the Red River delta youth, as well as enhance environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
Youth representative raised question for speakers
At the forum, successful young entrepreneurs shared their stories: the strategy of nurturing and developing ideas to make dreams come true, achieved results, advantages and disadvantages that they encountered and lessons learnt. Two agro-ecological initiatives to adapt to climate change called "Ricefield with flowered edge" and "Water treatment in white-leg shrimp ponds" supported by the Ready project have received participants’ concerns in the forum. These are highly practical initiatives for Thai Binh province and neighboring areas with similar geographical conditions.
Mr. Ngo Cong Chinh (leftmost), Deputy Director of Asian Institute for Management and Development (AMDI), participated in the discussion at the event.
Through these start-up tales, young people are inspired to continue their long-nurtured ideas. They are all aware that, in order to start a successful business, beyond ideas and implementation plans, they need strong determination, perseverance and endless learning spirit.
