Dissemination workshop of Research Project: “An Integrated Decision Support System for Strategic Flood Mitigation Planning towards Sustainable Agricultural Waste Management at the Mekong Delta (IDSS-MEKONG)”

On September 4, 2024, within the framework of the IDSS-MEKONG Project, Cranfield University (UK) in partnership with University of Bedfordshire (UK), University of Loraine (France), Asian Management and Development Institute (AMDI), Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (IMHEN), Vietnam National University of Agriculture (Vietnam), National University of Laos and Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS) in Cambodia organized a workshop on dissemination of research results in Ho Chi Minh City.

The IDSS-Mekong Research Project was implemented from March to September 2024 with the following objectives:

Ensuring sustainable agricultural waste management in the future in the Mekong Delta by ending the burning of 20.9 million tons of agricultural wastes.

• Developing an optimal planning tool for the collection, transportation and recycling of agricultural wastes under the impacts of climate change.

Participants of Workshop includes representatives of Donor, An Giang local authorities ( Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Provincial Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre) and concerned research institutions and universities.

Speaking at the Workshop, a representative of An Giang provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development assessed that the decision-support tool of the research project is feasible in agricultural waste management and in line with the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. An Giang province expected that the project can extend to the next phase in the future to support An Giang in handling the issue of producing bio-organic fertilizers from agricultural by-products.

Interested scientists also provided valuable comments to the Workshop.
